No matter the season of our lives, we can’t create a life we haven’t defined. That’s still true during one’s final years when serious illness or debility arrives. Spring isn’t exactly the time to finish a book about dying as I did this morning. A strange juxtaposition. And yet, finishing Being Mortal by Atul Gawande, I realize it’s really a book about living. Perfect timing.
Dr. Gawande encourages us to contemplate such questions as, what is most important to you under the circumstances? What does it mean to you now to live a meaningful life? What are your hopes and fears?
